Healthy Practices by Michelle Flynn.
When it comes to being healthy there is so much advice out there that we often don't know where to start. We buy the diet books, join the gym and then end up doing nothing as it becomes all too overwhelming.
My name is Michelle and I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner, Certified International Health Coach, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Mental Health in Recruitment Champion. I will share and simplify the 6 core principles of healthy living that most effectively add years to lives, and life to years.
Sleep is key to all health and wellbeing. Are you getting enough? You need to be getting approximately 7–9 hours sleep a night. Sleep is critical in order to restore and rejuvenate, to grow muscle, repair tissue and synthesize hormones.
Eat whole, real foods and avoid processed foods. By changing your relationship with food you are significantly reducing your risk of all chronic disease and also refraining from never needing to count calories again.
Regular physical activity will assist weight control as well as reduce the risk of disease. It's really about introducing movement into our daily routine. If you find something you enjoy it will likely become a habit and not seen as another task to fulfil.
Understandably not a popular choice but all of the evidence suggests we should reduce our intake of caffeine, alcohol and smoking for better wellbeing.
Stress is an inevitable part of life, but you can improve the way you respond to stress and avoid / change some of the situations that create negative stress. I would strongly encourage regular breathwork practice via @lovetolearnto on Instagram.
Clinical trials demonstrate that social connection makes us far less vulnerable to chronic disease so find time every day to connect with someone, whether that is someone in your family, a friend or an acquaintance.
If you try to incorporate my 6 core principles into your life you will feel infinitely better. You can learn more about my health coaching here.
